DIGITIMES Brand Repositioning Case Study

Naming Clarity|The DIGITIMES Brand Repositioning Project

When information becomes ubiquitous, clarity becomes the rarest resource of our time. Twenty-seven years after its founding, DIGITIMES turned back, for the first time, to redefine what clarity means: for itself, and for this era.

Challenges & Insights

A Transforming Company Trapped by the “Media” Label

No one would dispute that DIGITIMES is the largest technology information platform in Asia. But the other side of that identity is that the market has come to see it almost exclusively as one thing: a media outlet.

Co-founded in 1998 by more than fifty industry leaders, including Morris Chang and Stan Shih, DIGITIMES is the first professional information platform in the Asia-Pacific dedicated to the technology sector. For 27 years, it has documented and participated in the rise and reshaping of Asia’s tech supply chain. Yet through in-depth conversations with the senior leadership team, including the General Manager, we discovered that the simple, definitive label of “media” had become DIGITIMES’s greatest constraint in external communication.

In recent years, DIGITIMES has quietly transformed. Its business now extends far beyond breaking news, spanning three core areas: Smart Information Services, Integrated Marketing Services, and Consulting & Advisory Services. An experienced industry analyst team produces tailored in-depth reports and decision-making insight for enterprise clients; an integrated marketing division designs and runs large-scale offline business events that consolidate industry influence.

In other words, DIGITIMES is no longer just the “speed” of a digital media outlet. It also delivers the “breadth” of a global supply-chain perspective, the “depth” of professional industry analysis, and the “reach” of market and human-network connections.

An Evolving Definition of Information Clarity, Seen From Inside the Industry

To reposition DIGITIMES, we chose first to understand the industry’s broader trajectory, and the brand’s place within it.

DIGITIMES was built on information, and has built its business on information. But on closer inspection, what people value about information itself has shifted across eras.

In the early days of the internet, value lay in availability. Whoever could obtain information held the advantage. In today’s mature internet and exploding-AI era, information flows everywhere yet is often diluted and blurred through layers of repetition, translation, and summarization. Value has shifted to usefulness and precision — whoever can filter and verify becomes worthy of trust. Looking ahead, when AI is universally accessible and the information available to everyone has been “standardized,” value will shift again, this time toward originality and differentiation. Whoever holds undiluted, first-hand insight will hold the real competitive edge. This is precisely the strength of DIGITIMES, with its deep industry network.

What this observation reveals is that, across different eras, people need different forms of “information clarity.” And DIGITIMES, since 1998, has been doing exactly this — defining the clarity that each era requires.

Brand Repositioning

Restoring a Role That Had Always Existed

Many brand projects begin with the question of what a company should become. DIGITIMES's starting point was different. Its true role had always existed; it had simply lacked clear articulation.

DIGITIMES is more than a publisher. It is a decision-advisory company with deep first-hand industry connections. With its proprietary first-hand database, an extensive bench of analyst talent, and key nodes across the global supply chain, DIGITIMES helps clients see what others have yet to see, allowing decision-makers to view reality with sharper clarity in moments of informational chaos.

So, we returned this role to the brand by name:

Clarity Builder
The Architect of Decision-Making Clarity

And distilled this brand spirit into a tagline that bridges present and future:

Define Clarity
See the Truth Through a Clear Lens

"Define Clarity" is not merely a slogan. It is a verb. It means that DIGITIMES, in every era, redefines the clarity that decision-makers need: the clarity of speed, the clarity of judgment, and ultimately the clarity of original insight.

Extending from this tagline, we also mapped a three-stage brand role trajectory for DIGITIMES: from today's Sage (Knowledge Provider), through the transitional Ruler (Industry Expert), to the future Magician (Realizer of Decision Intelligence). This gives the abstract brand philosophy concrete form for internal teams to navigate across stages and contexts.

Visual Identity Design

Once the brand foundation was set, the next step was to translate abstract concepts into a visual language that could be recognized, trusted, and transmitted.

DIGITIMES's previous visual system was built around its identity as a media outlet. To enter the new chapter as a decision intelligence platform, the visual system needed a systematic recalibration: preserving the recognition it had earned, while carrying the new meaning of its role.

Preserving Recognition, Injecting Analytical Sharpness

Orange and black are the most distinctive colors DIGITIMES has built in the market over the years, carrying decades of accumulated reader trust. We chose to preserve this brand asset, while letting it speak in a new way: less of the noise of media, more of the steadiness of a sage; less of the rush of breaking news, more of the depth of an advisor.

Through extensive discussions with the client's senior leadership, the new logo's typographic structure became cleaner and sharper, with stroke incisions thoughtfully integrated into key letterforms. These incisions are not merely decorative. They echo the way DIGITIMES analysts cut directly into questions, splitting open ambiguity to reveal the structure within.

Brand Symbol "D"

Gateway to Intelligence

The letter "D" is the initial of DIGITIMES, and the central brand symbol of the new visual system.

We designed it as a gateway to intelligence. Through a tech-driven gradient luminance treatment, the symbol embodies the dynamic of information moving from breadth to precision, from sparse to focused, as if the process of decision-making information being gathered, organized, and brought into focus had been made visible: scattered signals gradually converging, surfacing, and ultimately forming a coherent picture worthy of decision.

The "D" is the initial of DIGITIMES, and the gateway to Decision Intelligence.

Color Vocabulary

The Sage's Steadiness, The Magician's Light

Orange is DIGITIMES's most recognizable and approachable extension, representing the reliability and brand memory accumulated over decades.

Black carries stability, professionalism, and discernment, the qualities of an advisor.
Together with a tech-driven gradient luminance, the full color system communicates not only "who we are," but more importantly, "what we can do for you": find direction in complexity, surface truth from ambiguity.

Brand Guideline

All design logic, usage rules, and application examples are ultimately consolidated into a brand guideline of more than 100 pages. It is more than a tool for designers. It is the shared language base for every future DIGITIMES new hire, every collaborator, and every overseas expansion.

Brand Internalization

A brand is not finished when consultants hand it over. It is enacted, daily, by everyone inside the company.

So, we co-designed and ran two brand workshops with DIGITIMES: one for senior leadership, and one for the full company.

For senior leaders, the workshop was a chance to internalize "Define Clarity" first-hand: to understand the strategic logic behind the brand positioning, and to learn how to carry the brand spirit into both external communication and internal management.

For all employees, the workshop turned the brand from "the company's thing" into "what I do every day." Through interactive discussion, case exercises, and real-context application practice, every DIGITIMES team member could find a concrete way of practicing "Define Clarity" in their own role.

The real strength of a brand isn't in the guideline manual. It is in that single, instinctive sentence an employee says to a client, in the brand's own voice.

Geber DIGITIMES Brand Internalization

DIGITIMES is the first professional platform in Asia dedicated to the technology industry. Twenty-seven years on, when information itself is no longer scarce and AI is redefining what "speed" means, DIGITIMES has chosen to take its next position: as a decision intelligence platform, defining the clarity of a new era for decision-makers.

The essence of this brand project was not to "make DIGITIMES look different." It was to make the role DIGITIMES had always played become visible. We spent significant time listening to its clients, to its analysts, and to the founding leadership's vision for the future. Then we distilled the facts that had always existed, but had never been spoken in a single sentence, into "Define Clarity."

When DIGITIMES's decision-makers walk into every meeting, every exhibition, and every overseas expansion, "Define Clarity" will arrive ahead of any CI rulebook, because it comes from what the brand has always been doing. Now it simply has a name.
